The Ostwind film location
Gut Waitzrodt was the fictional “Gut Kaltenbach” in all five Ostwind films. You stay at the real location — and the covered wooden terrace may well look familiar.
Between 2013 and 2021, the SamFilm / Constantin team turned our estate into “Gut Kaltenbach”, home of Mika and the black horse Ostwind. The yard, the meadows, the stables and that covered terrace became a place millions know from the screen — and it is exactly the place where you can wake up on your holiday.

The old courtyard estate at the edge of the Reinhardswald is no film set that gets taken down again — it is a living family farm. Horses in the morning, the smell of the stable, the wide meadows: the very atmosphere the films were looking for is simply everyday life here.

Rebellious Mika is packed off to her grandmother’s stud farm for the summer — and finds a soulmate in the shy black stallion Ostwind. Defiance turns into trust, two loners become a team.

Mika and Ostwind are back. A wild herd, a young horse-whisperer and a foal put their friendship to the test and lead deeper into the world of horses.

A great journey south to save a sick horse: Mika and Ostwind set off for Ora — a road movie about courage, letting go and sticking together.

A new girl, Ari, arrives at the farm. Closed-off and headstrong, she slowly finds her footing through the horses — and Mika becomes her mentor.

Our film-location tour over the estate
We take you to the corners where the cameras once rolled: the yard, the terrace, the meadows and stables — with the little stories of how filming on a real, working farm actually goes. A relaxed walk for fans young and old.
